    The Belle Plaine School Board accepted the resignation of Orville Heitkamp, physics, chemistry and biology instructor at the high school since 1956.

    After 28 years of service, County Auditor A.A. Mertz submitted his resignation to the Scott County Board of Commissioners. The board appointed Deputy Auditor Howard A. Huth of Shakopee to succeed Mertz.

    Spring wasn’t supposed to arrive until the vernal equinox on March 21, but a mild winter nearly turned into an early, balmy spring the first week of March and temperatures climbed well into the 70s on Saturday (March 7).

    A three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. District Court of Appeals ruled that former Scott County Attorney Kathleen Morris, former Sheriff Doug Tietz, four sheriff’s deputies and a therapist were immune from civil rights lawsuits stemming from the 1983-84 child sex abuse cases in the area.
